SCAFP News February 2005

From the Corner Office

Happy New Year to all of our members!  I hope your holidays were happy and healthy ones.

On a holiday note, many thanks to all of the members and guests who brought toys to our  annual December bash, "You Bet Your Cash."  This year we sponsored our first annual Toys For Tots drive, collecting new, unwrapped toys at the December meeting.  The drive was a great success, and dozens of wonderful toys were donated to this worthy program. I look forward to another successful toy drive in 2005!

I would also like to extend my thanks, as well as those of the entire SCAFP membership, to our members Clariza Mullins and William Yu.  Both were panel members, along with Susan Munson of Merrill Lynch, on the panel discussion entitled "Investing in a Rising Interest Rate Environment" presented at our January meeting. It was a very interesting and informative discussion, and was enjoyed by all who attended. I appreciate Clariza and William taking time from their busy schedules to prepare and participate in a program for their fellow members.

Their participation is also a reminder that we have a tremendous wealth of knowledge among our members. Access to that knowledge, whether through a panel discussion, over the luncheon table, or networking before the monthly meetings, is one of the many benefits of membership in the Southern California Association for Financial Professionals. When you add in the monthly programs, the annual EXPO L.A. Symposium with all of the educational opportunities that EXPO offers, together with our SCAFP newsletter and the SCAFP website, the opportunities to increase and expand your knowledge are tremendous!

If you haven't done so already, I encourage you to renew your 2005 membership now. If you have any questions about membership or if you're not a member yet, please contact our membership chair, Lakshmi Kumar, by email to lakshmi_kumar@ml.com or by phone at (213) 236-1026, or the SCAFP office by email to SCAFP@emaoffice.com or by phone at (818) 843-5660.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our next meeting on February 11th!

Morgyn Taylor, CTP

President

SCAFP Is 30 Years Old In 2005!

While none of our current members goes all the way back to the beginning, a few members joined in the 1975-1977 era. Whenever you joined SCAFP, and whatever its name was at that time (Cash Management Association of Southern California, then Treasury Association of Southern California, and now the Southern California Association for Financial Professionals) here's a memory jogger of our past presidents. We've developed a crossword puzzle with the names of all past presidents. It's amazing to see what companies no longer exist for one reason or another. Click here for the crossword puzzle in Microsoft Word.
