I am really excited to begin my second year as SCAFP president and have already started making plans for the upcoming year with a great group of leaders.
As directors/officers of SCAFP, our mission is to provide YOU, our members, educational and career development opportunities and an interactive forum for the exchange of ideas.
How are we going to do this? Our guide is the 5 strategic statements that were developed to support our mission.
Membership—shall attract and retain financial professionals as members.
Leadership—shall identify and develop members to serve as leaders in various Association capacities.
Financial Management—shall utilize sound financial practices and controls to ensure on-going ability to deliver services to our membership.
Communication—frequent two-way communications between members and the SCAFP directors/officers.
Relationships with External Organizations— develop relationships with other local, regional, and national organizations.
Remember, a strong Association is dependent on the continued and enthusiastic participation of its members.
Hope to see you at the next lunch meeting!

Robert Garrett, External Relations Chair
The external relations committee for the 2011-2012 term will focus on outreach to other regional chapters of the AFP, as well as other organizations and corporations who would like to be more involved in cash management, educational, and networking opportunities. This will provide opportunities to attend events in and with other regions; we will also attempt to secure member rates and discounted fees for SCAFP members.

I hope that everyone is enjoying the new format of our news letter. We have changed the format to be more of a bulletin board as well as a source for information such as current events, relevant article, and job postings. We encourage all our members to join us in our group on LinkedIn and you can even follow us on Twitter @SCAFP. Currently we are going strong with 4 followers. Follow us on these mediums to receive up to date articles and information about upcoming events.
We would love to hear your feedback and we are always trying to make the news letter as effective as possible. Please feel free to email me with any ideas. Have a great summer!
As a new member of the SCAFP Board Education Chair, I would like to continue in the path set by the previous Education Chair, Morgyn Taylor with the many successful programs and tours she helped organize, notably, the Federal Reserve Tour. I plan to coordinate additional educational tours that expand into different fields and industries to provide new experiences to our members. My goal is to emphasize the importance of earning CTP credentials and assist in building new opportunities to helping members in joining local study groups and instructor led courses. I would also like to organize volunteer events for local charities to assist the community and expand our membership network. I am looking forward to the new year and any suggestions and participation is welcome. Please keep checking the website for upcoming event updates.
Garima Thakur, Programs Chair
We will continue to invite knowledgeable speakers with interesting and relevant topics for our monthly meetings and webinars. In addition to quality education programs, the monthly events will provide a great opportunity to network with fellow professionals and to earn CTP credits*.
Should you have any suggestions/comments on meeting locations, topics, speakers, speaker referrals or if you want to be on the planning committee, please feel free to call or email me.
*CTP credits are applicable to select seminars/webinars.
Randy Gehres, Major Events Chair
Greetings SCAFP members. I want to thank everyone who attended this year’s SoCal Expo in Anaheim. From all accounts it was a huge success. I would particularly like to thank the sponsors without whom we could not host such a high profile event. THANK YOU!!!
Also, I want to thank all the committee members who helped organize the event. They are:
Celeste Caulfield, CTP, KB Homes
Trevor Kavanagh, GPS Capital Markets
Zoya Lieberman, CTP, Informa Research Services, Inc.
Garima Thakur, CTP, United Online
Meredith Oldorf, CTP, City National Bank
Dick Ercole
Shortly you will receive a short online survey asking for your feedback regarding this year’s Expo. Please take a moment to reply to the survey and provide any additional comments. You can also download any of this year’s session presentations directly from the SCAFP website.
We are already making plans for next year. Please let me know if you are interested in joining my committee. I am looking for volunteers.
Remember, if you attended the SoCal Expo for the first time you automatically qualify to become a SCAFP member for the remainder of 2011 so I look forward to seeing you at one of our monthly meetings.
Enjoy your summer!
